Critique on Typographic Tradition, Aalto ARTS, Tuomas Kortteinen.
This reader compiles essays researched, written and designed during the course Critique of Typographic Tradition at Aalto ARTS Visual Communication Design MA. Exploring the peripheries and cul-de-sacs of typographic history and established narratives of art historical and technological determinism, the course asks participating students to compile an annotated bibliography around a question they find both interesting as well as missing from the canonical histories of reading, writing and designing.

They then supplement, analyse and comment on the arguments found in their bibliographies in the form of collage essays presented here. These essays cut and paste pages from the literature into short visual essays, where each page is supplemented by marginalia added by the authors to provide a new paratextual frame for reading.
