Framed!
FieldProduct Design

With a very simple rule to follow: ‘Match the frames’. Framed! is a game that challenges its players by tricking the eye with optical illusions.

It is playing one’s perception of a form—A board game calling for speed and reflexes for a win.

About the Visuals
The packadging

In the conceptualization of the game's packaging, the focus remained on redefining the conventional approach seen in board game packaging. Recognizing the common size constraints and environmental impact associated with traditional packaging, the aim was to challenge these norms.

The objective was to reimagine the way the game is stored and presented, ultimately creating a solution that not only addresses sustainability but also embraces a minimalist material conception. The core idea revolved around the game itself serving as its own packaging, eliminating the need for excess materials and bulky boxes.
Central to this concept, the game folds upon itself. This transformative mechanism allows for compact storage and effortless portability, aligning seamlessly with modern lifestyles and environmental consciousness.

To further enhance functionality, game storytelling and aesthetic appeal, a 3D printed red frame, directly linked to the game's theme, serves as both a decorative element and a practical closure mechanism. When removed, this frame unveils the game's unfolding process, revealing a perfectly fitted box within. This box neatly houses the cards, game pieces, and rulebook, ensuring everything remains organized and easily accessible.

The game

In crafting our game, the focus styaed on leveraging optical illusions to create a visually captivating experience. The challenge was to strike a balance between attractiveness, readability, and accessibility while maintaining a unique and memorable look.
As well as to incorporate visual tricks that intrigue and deceit without overwhelming the eye, ensuring age-friendliness without sacrificing complexity. Hence creating a harmonious blend of artistry and functionality.

The rules2-6 players

Goal of the game

Each round a card is turned over. Each of them shows a frame of a unique size. The players must try to put their game piece on the frame of the exact same size as the red frame on the card

Game play

  1. The cards are shuffled and the game master draws the bottom card from the stack and puts it at the center of the table, red frame facing up.

  2. As quickly as possible, all players have to look for the corresponding red frame and place their game-piece on top. They may never be more then 2 pieces on each window. (1 in case of 2 players).

  3. The card is turned over, and the winner takes the card (In case of 2 winners, one takes a card from the stack). The game ends when all the cards have gone.
